ABOUT

Photography by Nicholas Torres, fellow food stylist and photographer.

If this reads like a poorly written profile with many grammatical errors, it’s because it was written by me, Malina Syvoravong and not Ai!

Although I did not go to culinary school which I get asked a lot, I do think my versatile art background has built my foundation on how to build and make delicious looking food. Understanding shape, color, tone, composition, placement and depth has come into play many times during styling.

Shout out to my school!
Humboldt State University, BA in Studio Arts, emphasis in oil painting and printmaking.

I would consider myself to be a multi-disciplinary human being. I don’t define my personality or life by my work as a food stylist; I do so much creative work beyond my career. That being said, I am proud of the work I’ve built over these last 10+ years working in food media due to all the creative, innovative, resourceful and artistic skills I had learned prior to becoming a food stylist.

Not only am I proud of my work but also doing my best to advocate for my team, but also working under high pressure or creative challenges. Food styling projects always comes with a number of logistics, operational hiccups but with my seasoned work experience, I can always find a solution to most issues.

My client list includes Sesame Street, Taco Bell, Panda Express, Din Tai Fung, Ajinomoto, Sam’s Club, Tender Greens, Liquid IV, plus many more, as well as recipe work for Simply Recipes, AMC seafood, Wild Alaska and work on various cookbooks.
